If you have a spouse or a family member that is turning 50, this great milestone for them. Because of this, you should host the perfect birthday party for them. Some things you can do is to choose a good birthday cake, play music from that era, and have a 1950s themed party.

Birthday Cake

There are many options when it comes to the birthday cake. If they are someone that likes fishing, make a two-tier cake and put a blue icing lake on the top of it. Purchase a plastic figurine of someone that is fishing, and put it on the cake.  You could make a cake in the shape of the numbers five and zero, and much more. Consider purchasing a cake with black icing, and putting "over the hill" on the top of it. Since this was the time of rock and roll, make the cake in the shape of an LP record, and write the name of their favorite song or artist on it.

Music

Hire a DJ to play music from the year the birthday person was born.  Some popular artists during that time were Elvis, Bobby Darin, Perry Como, and Buddy Holly.

Some popular dances in this time were the jitterbug, the twist, the Lindy hop, and more. Learn how to do some of these dances so you can teach your guests when the music is playing.

The DJ should also have current music they can play. Make sure you have room for them to set up their DJ equipment so it does not get in the way of the party. You should meet with the company to put together a song list before the party. For more information, contact a business such as Metro Sound & Lighting.

50's Theme

The 1950s were the time for sock hops and rock and roll. Give the birthday person an outfit that goes with that era, such as a poodle skirt or leather jacket. Decorate the room in the 1950s theme, such as a fake jukebox, dance floor, and record player with 45's and LP's.  Make root beer floats and milkshakes for the guests, along with cheeseburgers and French fries.  Set up a punch bowl with some homemade punch and plastic cups.

Turning 50, along with turning 13, 16, 18, and 21, are the big birthdays, and should be celebrated big. Follow these tips and more to make your spouse of friend's birthday one they will never forget.
